Because keeping up with technology and machinery is essential in the printing business, PIA/GATF and PIVA lobbied hard for these inclusions in Section 179 tax advantages.
Said James H. Mayes, president of ColorCraft for more than 20 years: “Hosting the President of the United States for a ColorCraft visit was one of the highlights of my life. It was great for our industry and for our employees."
President Bush commented directly on the importance of the inclusion of software in his published comments, saying: “If Jim decides to purchase software or machinery, there is a tax incentive to encourage him to do so … And that's important because when he buys the machine, or when he buys software, somebody has to manufacture that.”
President Bush also emphasized that individuals can benefit from the rebates in the stimulus package as well. More than three-quarters of ColorCraft’s 66 full-time employees are eligible for the rebates. The visit resulted when the White House asked Lisbeth Lyons of PIA/GATF to recommend an appropriate business making use of the tax advantages in the stimulus act.
The president toured the bindery, digital, pre-press, press room and fulfillment areas. Chip Peyton, ColorCraft vice president of printing and manufacturing, showed Mr. Bush job samples, including a recent piece done for USAID that has a photo of Mrs. Laura Bush on the cover.

“Small business owners are dreamers and doers,” Bush said. “We want to watch them and help them expand.”
As an independent professional printing company, ColorCraft of Virginia forges the kind of customer and employee relationships that make it a respected strategic partner to businesses throughout the Washington, DC, area. Recent equipment and technological innovations have allowed the business to better serve through digital printing, customized work and Variable Data Printing, and sophisticated targeted mailing services. “Supporting tax and other advantages that allow businesses to invest and grow helps everyone—our industry, our clients and our employees,” Mayes said.
